Description
As facilities, synchrotron light sources are open to researchers willing to perform their studies. To this purpose, synchrotron light sources open calls for proposals periodically: once, twice per year, or more often depending on the particular category of the experiment. Notwithstanding the growing number of facilities around the world, competition to obtain beamtime becomes stronger and stronger. Therefore, writing a *good proposal* is mandatory to be successful.
In this presentation I will show the path from proposal submission to experiment scheduling. Then, I will discuss how to write the typical sections of a proposal. Finally, I will give my personal tips and tricks as a beamline scientist that is daily in contact with users for the management and optimization of their measurements.
