Description
In order to shrink the size of the accelerators one possible way is to go to higher frequencies e.g. THz regime. We pursue such method in the AXSIS project (Attosecond X-ray Science: Imaging and Spectroscopy). Two laser driven THz electron injectors have been designed to be used as the gun in THz accelerating structures: First, a broadband multilayer structure which is capable of accelerating the electrons from rest up to 1.5MeV kinetic energy using 2mJ single cycle of THz signal. The second design is a four cell ormal conducting cavity which is actually a narrow-band component and needs about 300 THz cycles with an energy of 1.1 mJ to accelerate the eectrons from rest up to 250 keV. Both structures operate at 300 GHz.
