Description
The highest conventional electron energy accelerator, Stanford Linear Accelerator (SLAC), has got an accelerating gradient of 0.001 keV/μm. CERN prepares to test revolutionary plasma based mini-accelerator, promising to shrink costs and size of particle accelerators for science, medical applications and industry significantly. Laser-driven plasma accelerator at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab achieved the acceleration gradient of 10 keV/μm. Magnetic coaxial plasma accelerator, MCPA, provides the highest gradient of 100 keV/μm. IAEA has recognized this device as “a first test bench for testing of plasma facing materials, diagnostic development and calibration, technologies and scaling to conceptual principles of larger devices ”. The intrinsic radiations of magnetic coaxial plasma accelerator sets it apart from other devices as a prime candidate for various applications.
The MCPA will be operational at IPM soon!
