Description

One of the simplest and relatively cheap gaseous detectors that widely used in high-energy physics and astro-particle physics is resistive plate chamber (RPC). The composition of detector gases is one of the important parameters in gaseous detectors performance. Three types of gases usually are used in an RPC for a gas composition that include ionized gas, UV quencher gas and electron quencher gas. In this paper using Grfield++, Elmer and Gmesh, Magboltz and HEED codes, we studied the effects of three common quenching gases (CO2, butane and i-butane) on an RPC performance. The results show that the butane and iso-butane have similar effects on the RPC performance and both of them are better than CO2.
