GravoThermo Memory: From point particles to extended objects 1h

In this talk, I will present the concept of GravoThermo memory, first introduced in arXiv:2307.04151. After a brief review of gravitational memory, I will discuss how the resulting hysteresis-like behavior provides an arrow of evolution useful for statistical characterization. The thermodynamic response of ensembles of rotating objects subjected to a weak gravitational wave is then examined, beginning with an ensemble of spinning point particles and subsequently extending to an ensemble of rotating extended bodies, where the evolution of each object is governed by the Mathisson-Papapetrou equations. In both cases, the passage of a gravitational wave produces persistent, measurable changes in the ensemble’s distribution -- resulting in the GravoThermo memory effect. These signatures may be observable and could offer a new pathway for gravitational wave detection.
