Extra-terrestrial neutrinos as a window towards new physics 1h

Abstract: The current neutrino telescopes, ICECUBE and KM3NeT, have ushered in a new era for the fields of particle physics and astrophysics, bringing these two communities closer together and urging further dialogue between these fields. I will start with a short review of the possible sources of extra-terrestrial neutrinos. I will then review the results from these telescopes as well as the prospect of their upgrade and construction of new neutrino telescopes. I will emphasize the serendipity nature of research in this field, with the frenzy of activity following the famous KM3-230213A event as an example. In the end, I will briefly review our paper explaining this unusual and unexpected event which defies a standard model explanation.

Speaker: Dr Yasaman Farzan (School of Physics, IPM)
