Calculation of Electron Transport Coefficients for Negative Hydrogen Ion Production in Perpendicular Electric and Magnetic Fields 1h

Research on negative hydrogen ion sources is growing due to applications in materials science, high-energy physics, and nuclear fusion. Improving the H⁻ source at the University of Tehran (part of the national medical cyclotron project) motivates this study.
A previous PIC (Particle-in-Cell) code developed at the Faculty of Physics is now being extended to a fluid model within the same framework. This enables comparison between the two approaches and is a step toward a hybrid code.
Since vibrationally excited states play a key role in H⁻ production, and electron transport coefficients are essential for fluid/hybrid simulations, we use the Monte Carlo method to calculate: Electron transport coefficients and Vibrational excitation rates of H₂ over a wide range of reduced electric fields (E/N).
Additionally, the effect of a magnetic field perpendicular to the electric field on these quantities is investigated.

Speaker: Dr Farnoosh Eshghi (Department of Physics - University of Tehran)
